3 MORE PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR WINTER.

Winter always brings the perpetual problems of shorter daylight hours and less sun to utilise, which can make blogging photography a tad tricky.

Last year's tips for brighter Winter photography was so popular and received such lovely feedback, that I wanted to supplement it today with just a few more tips, including an update on my photography style, and a handy little gadget that's entered my life! Hope you enjoy :)

7 WAYS TO UNWIND THIS WINTER.

As the year comes to a close, it's not at all uncommon to feel the 'afterburn' of whatever else onerous, tedious or trying you've had going on in your life. And what with the lack of sunshine to brighten your frame of mind, your winter mood can quickly snowball (ho hum ;) from almost jovial, to having a severe case of the winter blues.

If, like me, you feel like your mood suffers with the failing light, then I hope my seven ways to unwind help you feel a little more like yourself this winter :)

CHRISTMAS GIFT GUIDE 2017.

Hello December!

To mark the first of the festive month, I'm here today with my*bumper* Christmas Gift Guide 2017!

Last year's post took me such a long time, but I had the most lovely comments and feedback on it - so thank you! This year's has taken me even longer, but I wanted to try and get a great mix of less-common picks, some luxury, a lot affordable, for him, for her, for the foodie, for the slow-liver, for yourself? ;)

(I tried to include a mixture of price points in each category, but, as with last year, I've added a Stocking Fillers section towards the end for some smaller items :)

I really hope you find an idea that you've been hunting for!

LUXURY BEAUTY WORTHY OF YOUR CASH.

It's been over a year since I last indulged in enabling some pricey purchases ;)

But in all seriousness, it can be utterly frustrating to feel as if you're wasting your hard-earned dollar on a high-ticket item that just doesn't deliver, so I'm here to help you with those struggles today, by sharing a handful products that I wholeheartedly believe are worth every penny.

(I still stand by my original list of worthy splurges btw, in case you're feeling extra flush!)

10 THINGS THAT'VE MADE ME HAPPY #8
+ BLACK FRIDAY SALES 2017.

one. // Bath. I recently took a trip to possibly my very favourite city in the country for some R&R. We had a lot of 'no-camera' time which was profoundly refreshing, but, I managed to sneak it out with me for a little while of lifestyle and OOTD shots ;)

two. // How spectacular beech trees are looking right now. Everyday their leaves become more rich and umber in colour. I love that as Autumn comes to an end, and other trees have been through their tonal metamorphosis, the beech give us a florid finale late into November.

three. // Getting into our evening routine of turning on the lamps, lighting candles and snuggling down to watch Masterchef: The Pros.

four. // Gill Meller's 'Gather' - such a gorgeous book.

five. // Hot chocolate and gluwein season. I had my first hot choc of this year the other day using F's 100% Ghanaian or Ecuadorian chocolate, which is completely unpalatable to eat, but delicious in my gingerbread hot chocolate.

six. // PR. I have had some really lovely PR parcels and conversations this month, so I'd like to just take a moment to say thank you to all of the lovely companies and contacts I've had interactions with, and for the wonderful items you've been kind enough to let me try!

seven. // Really impressive new beauty. Whether it's new to the market, or just new to you, does anyone just love finding new skincare and makeup that just really impresses beyond expectation? Rhetorical question I'm sure ;) The Blossom Jeju line that I'm now using everyday, the La Mer foundation that has just wowed me, and the Leighton Denny nails that are the cornerstone to my berry-toned, Autumn makeup. When you get to try and compare so much, standouts like these are all the merrier :)

eight. // Ginger tea. Fresh ginger always, dash of honey, biggest mug you can find - can't get enough of the stuff.

nine. // Bloggers. A new Insta account I'm following: @rachelaurynblog - such gorgeous, lifestyle and slow-living snaps.

ten. // Cyber Week shopping! I'm really making an effort not to go wild, but there are, nevertheless, a few deals that I just won't be able to deny myself.. In case you were in need of enabling, here are a handful that speak to me ;)

8 KOREAN SKINCARE ITEMS I ABSOLUTELY ADORE RIGHT NOW.

korean-beauty-skincare-favourites-barely-there-beauty-blog

The perks, and simultaneously problems, with writing a blog, is that on a permanent basis, there's too much to try.

And Korean skincare is a case in point.

I've always had a love for the stuff (with my heritage, how could I not?), but it can very easily make it's way towards the back of the cabinet when other, new and shiny beauty items come along.

But in a way that's nice. It's like a little resurgence every time you re-find old favourites, or a new product truly impresses.

And the latter is exactly what I'm sharing with you today. If you follow my Instagram, then you're already a bit ahead of the game as I've given some of these delights a mention over there - so, without further waffling, let me welcome you to tuck into a little tasting menu of my current, very favourite, Korean skincare goodies.

FALL IN FIFTEEN // AUTUMNAL BERRY MAKEUP.

I've always found berry tones a little difficult.

And whilst my recent Autumn Beauty Favourites contained a fair few peachy-pink tones (arguably inspired by the fact I'd recently picked up TF's Zoe lipstick and couldn't put it down), I've finally found a matching berry nail-lip combo that is spurring some autumnal, and dare I say festive, spirit within me!

I'm frequently asked about the skin and eye products I use too, so today, I'm sharing my quick and easy, 15 minute, autumnal berry makeup, using some of my current favourites - hope you enjoy!

Sometimes, life's everyday struggles can leave you feeling low, lacklustre, and frankly, depressed - I know it can me - and the emotional effects can be ever so hardgoing on your wellbeing.

I've been trying to make a better effort to consciously embrace activities that improve my mood, rather than hoping I'll just feel better with time, and I'd love to share some ideas with you today - hope you enjoy!

CURRENT LUXURY HAIRCARE FAVOURITES.

My hair's been through a lot over the last couple of years.

Due to my (ongoing..) dealings with Telogen Effluvium, I had around 18 months of 'heat free', and shunned the use of just about every hair product in my bathroom cabinet, in the hope that my hair would become more stable.

Now, I'm introducing the occasional hair tool, and I cherry pick the products in my routine. I've been enjoying trying more luxury haircare to give me the three cornerstones of all of my hair wishes; condition, volume and shine, so let me share some of my current favourites with you!

THE WINTER WRAP DRESS.

D R E S S I N G   D O W N

Wrap dresses are, in my eyes, one of the most versatile and universal dress shapes to flatter all. I picked up this flowery, flouncy (and distinctly summery..) number when the weather was a lot warmer, and it's one of those items that's become enveloped by my wardrobe, tags still remaining, to become forgotten about..

But all is not lost!

Darkening days and cooler temperatures does not mean your favourite skirt for sashaying need be confined to the back of the wardrobe. Wrap dresses are the perfect item for layering, and adding a feminine frill to otherwise cosy, masculine or country attire.

7 WAYS TO USE UP YOUR ALMOST-EMPTY JARS.

A R E   W E   S I T T I N G   C O M F O R T A B L Y ?

It's been a really busy week in Casa BTB. I feel like I've just had a lot going on lately - a lot to sort, a lot of errands to run, and a lot of organising to do.

F and I are planning another weekend away in Bath (our favourite 'together place', although heck, it's one of my all time favourite 'solo places' too) which I'm really looking forward to. We're staying at these gorgeous apartments this time and I'm currently trying to sift through a host of open tabs, searching out potential restaurant candidates..

I suppose the overriding question for me at the moment though, as far as this trip is concerned anyway, is whether or not I'm going to take my camera?

Part of me absolutely shuns the idea of leaving it behind, because I want to gleefully skip round Bath's stone streets and be incredibly snap-happy, because there's a lot to be snap-happy about in that city. But another part feels like maybe I should embrace some slow living and enjoy the moment, without analysing whether things are in frame or focus.. The jury's yet out..

F's little twin cousins have been invited to one of their friend's parties in a few days too and I (perhaps unwisely) offered to help out with some of the organisation (when I, also perhaps unwisely, let them facepaint me into a 'pretty clown'..) which includes getting some silly personalised t-shirts printed! (I recommend Printsome, if you're too in need of some quick t-shirt printing).

Otherwise, it's just a speight of renewing contracts or other means of 'adulting', which is just too dull to recite.

I've gone on a bit haven't I?

I just wanted to do a quick post today, inspired by something I saw in a Waitrose mag, on using up the last little scrapings of your jarred foodstuffs.

There's always that little smidge left isn't there? A little smidge that always seems to evade a knife or spoon being scraped round the sides, and consequently, delicious morsels of homemade jam or relish, or whatever else it is, goes to waste. So let me share with you, 7 ways to make the most of your almost-empty jars, and give them a second lease of life.

J A M

Fill your jar around halfway with plain or pouring yoghurt, pop on the lid and shake to combine. Enjoy on it's own as a snack, or atop some granola. Especially delicious with Bonne Maman's wild blueberry - a favourite in our household!

Add a little dribble of hot water from the kettle, shake, then drizzle over pancakes or waffles as a fruity sauce.

For a small jar of homemade jam, layer in yoghurt, biscuits or granola and sliced fruit for a healthy parfait.

P E A N U T   B U T T E R

Fill 1/4 of the jar with oats and top up with milk. Add some vanilla paste or cinnamon and give it a good stir. Leave in the fridge overnight for some delicious overnight oats the next morning.

M U S T A R D

When you're down to your last dregs of dijon or wholegrain mustard, add the juice of half a lemon, a squidge (1-2 tbsps) honey, a pinch of salt and pepper and around 8 tbsps of olive oil. Shake everything together for a delicious salad dressing.

Likewise, if you've finished up some jarred borettane onions, as often frequent our kitchen, then be sure to use the delicious, balsamic liquor in a similar fashion - it makes an amazing dressing.

M A Y O N N A I S E

I hate throwing out any scrap of homemade mayo, partly because it requires some effort to make, so just add chopped chicken, celery, apple, walnuts, and some salt and pepper for a quick take on a chicken waldorf. Delicious on a baked potato or atop some butter lettuce.

N U T E L L A

Fill 3/4 of the jar with hot milk and some ground ginger and (carefully) shake for an amazingly tasty, speedy take on my gingerbread hot chocolate. Here's my proper recipe if you want to go all out ;)

I would love to talk about honey, but every last drop gets used, swilled out with a drop of hot water, to soak my castella cakes ;)

I hope you've enjoyed today's babble and thrifty tips - it's hopefully going to be an outfit post on Sunday so I'll meet you back here for that, and hope you're all enjoying the wind down to the weekend :)

Boy has it been a while since I did a proper product review.

I've been using this new range of cream products from Innisfree for a little while now and I think they're worth sharing!

There are 18 colour products in the range; 4 colour correctors, 2 illuminators, 3 blushes, 3 contour shades and 6 foundations. All purport to have a satin finish, include some SPF and have rich, blendable pigment. I picked up the three shades that appealed most to me, so let me show you more....

10 THINGS THAT'VE MADE ME HAPPY #7

10-things-made-me-happy-wellness-wellbeing-beauty-lifestyle-flatlay-photography-barely-there-beauty-blog

October has been a glorious month. Aside from the fact that it's 'birthday' month for both F and I (!), it's one of my favourite months for experiencing the crisp, illustrious sunlight that's just magical in Autumn. Here are 10 more things that've made me happy lately!

one. // Birthday Month! I've been pretty spoilt this month. From little getaways with F, to the most wonderful PR packages arriving on my birthday, I've a lot to be thankful for. (And F's father curated me the sweetest present, in the style of Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket, hidden in my favourite bar of Godiva Blood Orange, so surprised and delighted!) There are a few things we couldn't schedule into October too, so I'm looking forward to the spillover into next month ;)

two. // Our little visit to Petersham Nursuries. I'm sure you'll hear everyone say that it's their favourite place in the world, but it really does feel especially alluring when you head down on an exceedingly quiet afternoon, as we did the other day, and it feels like you've got the entire place to yourselves. Post soon to come!

three. // Re-embracing my love for Castella cake - and having a go at making it myself! I haven't had this delightfully sticky, sweet, honey cake for the longest time, and although the recipe is really quite temperamental, my loaves came out beautifully, so I couldn't be more pleased. Happy to share my recipe and little tweaks and tips, so let me know if you'd like to see it!

four. // Another exceedingly delicious meal at The Greyhound. AWT's place in Rotherfield Peppard is just the most cosy, eccentrically-decorated setting, and most importantly, his food is divine. Always perfectly cooked and full of flavour - the wagyu is excellent and I already can't wait to go back again.

five. // All the love I've had for my lifestyle posts! If you've been keeping up with me here on BTB, you'll have noticed my shift to more lifestyle posts (in fact, I've only shared one beauty post this month!), and I'll admit, I was a little apprehensive that they wouldn't be as well received. But regardless of the hesitation, it just felt more me and so I went ahead. But I'm so happy to say that I've had such lovely feedback from you all - my Beginner's Guide To Houseplants and Autumn Style Staples have been particularly popular, so here's my chance to say a big thank you to you :)

six. // Seeing an elderly gentleman pruning his trailing roses in a full, tweed, 3-piece. With matching tweed hat. In a walled garden. On a beautifully sunny day. Just heartwarming.

seven. // The Mauli Grow Strong Hair Oil. I've neglected my hair and it hasn't thanked me, but this lovely, ayurvedic scalp oil is making it feel softer and more manageable.

eight. // A Vision Of Eden. F's mother kindly picked me up a lovely, old copy of Marianne North's (botanist and biological artist who worked at Kew Gardens) life and works. I've loved her illustrations from afar and it's been thoroughly interesting to thumb through her story. There's something about Autumn that makes me more inclined to read - just me?

nine. // Enjoying clothes shopping again. I got myself into a really big rut of hating my body, and therefore loathing clothes shopping - thinking that everything looked dreadful on me, and just having a really negative attitude towards the whole affair. I don't think I've lost any weight (I don't weigh myself anymore, in an effort to disconnect with the 'numbers' and just go by how I feel), so its quite possible that it's just my outlook that's changed (or the fact that's it's a lot cooler and I can layer up!), so I've been enjoying the experience a lot more. Here are several things I'm enjoying at the mo :)

ten. // Bloggers. I'm in utter adoration of Cindy's snaps lately, she's branching out into more lifestyle photography and I love every photo!

If you're after more positivity, you can find my 10 Things series here, and I'd love to hear what's been making you lately :)

AUTUMN BEAUTY.

Autumn-beauty-favourites-photography-Barely-There-Beauty-blog

F and I are back from this round of birthday celebrations, and whilst we had an exquisite time, I'm having a bit of a home-bunny moment. It's an impeccable day, all golden and blustery and my desk is speckled with autumnal light at the moment - the kind of light that would be 'just perfect' for some photography, but rather than hurry to fetch the camera, I'm just going to enjoy it.

I've been sitting on a 'proper beauty post', in fact, this particular beauty post, for some time, collating some of the items that have seen most action in my beauty cabinet now that we're firmly into autumn, and this fine autumn day seems like the perfect time to share some of my thoughts with you. I've got my ginger and pine nut tea on the ready, and I've gone all 'autumnal glow' with the photo editing too so hope you enjoy!

13 POSITIVE QUOTES + MANTRAS TO REAFFIRM AND BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY.

A N O T H E R   Y E A R   O L D E R ,   A N O T H E R   W I S E R

Happy Birthday to me! I'll admit from the outset that this post is well and truly scheduled, because I refuse to embrace blogging and social media on my birthday, and by the time you're reading this, I'll be having a superbly relaxing day with loved ones!

Rather than dedicate a post to a birthday makeup tutorial (although I will list the makeup I'm wearing for my birthday/in the photos at the end of the post for you), or showing you the outfit I'll be wearing on the day, I wanted to spread a little positivity and encouragement with a small collection of uplifting and just lovely quotations and mantras. I hope you're all having an utterly wonderful day and I'll be back, after a couple of days of rest and enjoyment, at the weekend :)

one. // If you don't know where you want to go, then it doesn't matter which path you take.

two. // Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.

three. // On the difficult days, when the world is on your shoulders, remember that diamonds are made under the weight of mountains.

four. // The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let things go.

five. // Don't be eye candy, be soul food.

six. // A party without cake is just a meeting.

seven. // Smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

eight. // Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth, 'You owe me.' Look what happens with a love like that, it lights the whole sky.

nine. // Let your heart be your compass.

ten. // Most of our childhood is stored not in photos, but in certain biscuits, lights of day, smells, textures of carpet.

eleven. // Imagine all the wondrous things your mind might embrace if it weren't wrapped so tightly around your struggles.

twelve. // I didn't come this far to only come this far.

thirteen. // Shine, for you are light and wonder. For there are galaxies within you and stardust dances in your soul, stars live in your eyes and glory and grace in your bones. You are beautiful, you are light and wonder, you shine.

THE ART OF SLOW LIVING + 5 WAYS TO INCORPORATE IT INTO YOUR LIFE.

R E C O N N E C T ,   R E F L E C T ,   R E I N S P I R E

If there's one overriding attitude I've become passionate about in recent years, it's wellness and wellbeing, and taking more of a 'holistic' approach to bettering my life and mood.

Adopting more of a 'slow living' mindset has easily been my most inspired and favourite change. I've found it incredibly uplifting to reconnect with aspects of life that are most often trampled upon by adult things like 'responsibilities' and 'deadlines' (yawnyawnborebore).

As it's birthday month for me, the perfect time to reconvene and reflect, I wanted to have a little chat with you about some of my slow living habits, including five ways you can incorporate a little slow living wellness into your life this autumn. Read on and enjoy!

BLUSH ORANGE WAFFLES
(gluten free + no waffle maker needed)

food-photography-blood-orange-waffles-recipe-gluten-free-Barely-There-Beauty-blog

I woke up last Sunday morning, with an itching for waffles.

If every alternate (alternate to accommodate pancakes of course) weekend could include waffles for breakfast, then I would be a very happy camper. I mean, is there much better than dousing, what is essentially already dessert, in a gravy boat of syrup?

We've had a bag of coconut flour tucked away at the back of the kitchen worktop, lonely and unused, and it's happily a tasty way to turn ordinary waffles, gluten-free - which, for me, means all the taste and less of the bloat. And best of all, these particular waffles are baked in the oven, so no waffle-maker needed.

I also happened across these beautiful blush oranges whilst meandering around Waitrose, their segments speckled with cardinal ruby. There's a little twang of berry in their taste too which makes them deliciously interesting. Pair them with an orange blossom syrup and full-fat, creamy bio yoghurt, best enjoyed in bed with a newspaper. Well enough waffle-ing (hoho) - let me share the recipe with you ;)

5 STYLE STAPLES TO GRACE MY AUTUMN WARDROBE.

WELL. Today, I've gone shopping, for both myself and you!

I've had a hankering to update my wardrobe for the increasingly chilly weather, and, effectively, revel in an excuse to buy myself a little hoard of new items. I mean, it is birthday month after all, and if a girl can't treat herself then, when can she? (let's all be honest with ourselves and mention that I've already started the treating process, and several of the items in today's post have already been purchased ;)

As I realised my shopping list is incredibly themed and autumnal, I thought I'd use it in a bid to inspire your wardrobe this October, so read on for my 5 staples to grace my autumn wardrobe this year - hope you enjoy!

BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO HOUSEPLANTS.

We've always had plenty of greenery in our house, for as long as I can remember mum has lined the hallway and windowsills with potted plants. I love the sense of calm they seem to bring to a room, but I in no way inherited her deftness for looking after them..

I have, however, managed to raise a little family of fauna, which I've now kept alive and thriving for a couple of years. So today I'm bringing to you, the Beginner's Guide To Houseplants - attractive planting that's hard to kill, small in size and easy to manage.

I'm a fiend for just about any sweet and salty combination, and today's roundabout take on salted caramel is a new winner in our abode - F loves them!

I've been opting to bake cupcakes recently, as they're quicker to make, and something about their handheld convenience means they're also a lot quicker to eat ;) Today's post is a little play I had with this recipe I found on Pinterest and the finished morsels are so tasty - a sweet richness of honey, a little dash of salt, the tang of yoghurt and the childhood glee of crunchy honeycomb.

Read on for the recipe and I do hope you enjoy!

WISHLISTING // AUTUMN.

S U M M E R   W A R D R O B E   O U T ,   C O S Y   C L O T H I N G   I N

I don't often share wishlists here on my blog, but there's something about the change in seasons that gives me very itchy fingers to go shopping.. (and I rather enjoyed putting together this collage!) Even more so when I'm able to sit with laptop somewhat precariously balanced on knee, and cup of tea (currently Clipper Flower Power) at hand, able to peruse my favourite online stores at leisure.

As is entirely predictable, my current wishlist-come-shopping list is made up of Hygge-style home-comforts, cosy layering items and a few new books to inspire in the kitchen. As far as clothing goes, two pieces of particular mention are this perfectly proportioned coat, and the closest way to socially acceptably wear a blanket out and about ;)

In the kitchen, I'm on yet another of my 'cookbook kicks' and truth be told, I've already picked up The Wholefood Pantry, and it's currently making for a lovely bedtime read - I've definitely become accustomed to forgoing fiction and thumbing through recipe or wellness books at night. The autumn equinox also signals the green light for evenings of hot cocoa in Casa BTB, so how can I resist adding a few more mugs to my collection? I shared my Gingerbread Nutella hot chocolate last year (still a favourite), and I'm looking forward to play about with more flavours now that the weather is cooling off.

What's on your wishlist this autumn?

GENTLE SKINCARE + WHY I'M PRIORITISING IT.

I've been out in the glorious sunshine today (a rare few rays amidst the rain and cloud we've had lately in Surrey), and even though I tried to slather my face in sunscreen, the tops of my cheeks are feeling just a little bit warm.. It's pretty apt, therefore, that this post should go up today, as I wanted to sit down and have a big 'skin chat' with you, specifically on my ethos of skincare that's gentle on the skin, and how 'sensitive skincare' shouldn't just be reserved for the reactive, or the particularly troublesome.

I've had several requests to share my current routine and product rotations too, so I've tried to be indepth and share with you some products that I'm using and loving right now. Hope you enjoy!

I have procrastinated all day today (the day before this goes up). I ran a few errands and made lunch and the like, but the goal was to get an upcoming post done and edited, and it just became one of those days where things don't happen. The kind where writers block kicks in, your mind is elsewhere and all the distractions want your attention at once - please tell me I am not alone in this?!

I did however, manage to put together the finishing touches for today's 10 Things post so I hope you enjoy today's edition of positivity. As always, do let me know what's been making you happy recently as I love to share in this good-mood inducement :)

FIG + HONEYCOMB PORRIDGE //
AUTUMNAL BREAKFASTS.

S T I C K Y   F I G S   +   R U N N Y   H O N E Y

We ventured out for a sushi dinner yesterday and it was the first time this year I wished my khaki coverup was more of a snuggly, sheepskin parka - it was really nippy!

Part of me is by no means disappointed though. Despite it's pitfalls, like the inevitability of me picking up some kind of bug, and the fact that I look forward to each new season as the last comes to an end, Autumn is my favourite. I find that my tastes in food really start to change too, away from fresh salads, and towards comforting and restorative - in fact, salads and raw veg become the last thing I want ;)

Today's non-recipe is something I've been craving most mornings - it's just the very perfect combination of toppings to adorn an otherwise, plain and ordinary bowl of oats.

P.S if you'd like to take a preliminary guess at how many times I say 'sticky' in this post. I'll tell you at the end ;)

I think it's apt that I'm currently sitting here, writing this, on the floor, surrounded by shelf upon shelf, drawer upon drawer of beauty products and gizmos..

I was having a think about the unnecessary length of our beauty routines, and ways in which I could shave off some time, to put towards some arguably more meaningful or productive activities. I'm sharing a few ideas today, so I hope you enjoy!

12 // consecutive days of Vegetarianism... before I gave into fennel cured meats for our homemade pizza.. I'm a total failure aren't I ;) but just too tasty to pass up on!

9 // toners donated or thrown out in an effort to consolidate my oversized skincare collection.

11 // toners nonetheless remain..

4 // wellbeing publications bought in the last week - my new favourite thing!

2 // the mere number of eclairs left at Maitre Choux when I popped in last thing the other day. (Yes I had both).

9420 // current Camera Roll count. The 'clearout' from my last Weekend In Numbers post clearly didn't go so well..

10+ // minutes of constant, unbridled laughter over a silly voice F and I did - oh to be childlike.

2.5+ // hours listening to John Mayer on repeat - what a talented man.

7 // the level of geekiness, out of 10, appropriated by watching X-com 2 expansion streams with F.

8 // the level of surprise, out of 10, to find myself enjoying it so much.

9.5 - 9.75 // the level of F's surprise out of 10, that I enjoy it so much!

17 // striped Breton tops now in my wardrobe after my little Joules haul the other day - I'm a woman out of control!

How has your week been so far? I hope it's been a good one!

Is there such thing as the 9 month slump? September always feels like a bit of a crossroads for me - or more, a natural divide in the year. All the good intentions from the start of the New Year have all but ebbed away now, but something about the change of seasons and 'Back To School' time, makes September an opportunity to pick things back up, or change direction.

I did a similar post last year that seemed to go down well (you can check it out here), so I'm back today with five more tips to rebooting your September, and how to feel more energised and inspired by embracing change. Hope you enjoy!

+ 3 REASONS WHY GARDENING HAS
BETTERED MY MOOD.

Being the cynic I am, I never imagined that gardening could have such a positive effect on my wellbeing - despite there being countless articles on the topic.. It's now one of my favourite hobbies I've taken up in recent memory, and it's something I'm quickly becoming quite passionate about!

I've taken quite a holistic approach with my own personal struggles, and gardening, cultivating, tending and growing has become a little space of solace for me - and it can be for you too! There are plenty of studies to show the positive impact it has on depression, stress and anxiety - sadly ailments that too many of us suffer from these days, but it's hope-inducing to know that something so seemingly simple can give so much comfort and alleviate symptoms.

Today, I'm sharing a little of my personal experience, as well as 5 tips to help you cultivate wellbeing. I hope you enjoy!

You wouldn't think it to look at my collection now but I never used to wear blush. At all. Nor any cheek product for that matter. However I feel that now I've started, my face looks different without it, and I finally understand what people mean when they say they feel their skin is sallow or lacklustre pre a little livening up with blush. I've amassed a small collection of favourites now (we're going to omit palettes today too), so if you care to take a delve ;)

LEMON, THYME + COURGETTE CAKE.

We've had so much from the garden this year, which is, by the way, fast becoming my favourite hobby, and if you've ever grown courgettes, then you know of the inevitable glutton of produce towards the end of the season.

I've never made a cake including courgette before, although eaten several and always thought they tasted lovely. After fritters, Korean breakfasts, and throwing a bit of courgette in whatever I've been cooking lately, I thought it was about time I tested out this courgette-cake-trend for myself.

When it comes to an experimental cake recipe, I always find lemon to be the perfect partner. Lemon and lavender, lemon and coconut, I've even enjoyed lemon, pear, fennel and ginger. This cake isn't quite that unique, but it's really delicious, has a lovely, moist crumb, and most importantly, uses up my spare courgettes! With it's adornment of creamy, mascarpone buttercream, a syrupy soaking and bittersweet candied lemons, this one is the perfect daytime nibble of the season.

If you're a fellow blogger, do let me know - do you ever have days where writing a blog post is like trying to get blood from a stone? I feel like the words are just not making themselves apparent today, and my sentences are winding and repetitive. So essentially, please can we ignore my off-writing today?! Back on topic, I'm always interested to hear what people are loving lately, and why. I've got a handful of relatively new beauty favourites, so let me share them with you :)

I didn't imagine I'd be quite so fond of this series when I started it, five months ago. I'm already enjoying reflecting on the little moments that made me happy back then. And I'm also glad that you seem to enjoy them so far! In fact, maybe that should be an honourary number eleven this month ;)

BARELY THERE BEAUTY // BLOG SALE.

Turns out that having what I consider to be a 'major clearout' earlier this year wasn't enough..

And hence why I'm hosting a blog sale! I really have too many beauty products for one person, and I would love for some of them to find good, loving homes elsewhere!

I'm likely going to split my sale into two parts to stop things being overwhelming, so please feel free to have a perusal through my wares (oo-er) - there's high end makeup (Tom Ford, Chanel, Dior, YSL, Clarins, Clinique etc), limited edition pieces, skincare, Korean beauty, some drugstore bits - and many matte lip products because I've finally realised that they just do not suit me ;)

You can find the link to the sale in my sidebar, but I'll also pop it here for you:

I hope you find something you like!

As someone who's now become very much deep-rooted (and happily so) into a very barely-there makeup routine, date night is the perfect excuse to spend a little more time on my appearance. Part of the reason for this post is that I just wanted an opportunity to talk about some gorgeous new date-night-appropriate items I've picked up lately, so I hope you enjoy ;)
