In the spirit of wellness and whatnot for 2017, I've been turning the somewhat simple task of 'going to bed' into an elaborate routine with as much pampering and quiet luxuries as possible. It's all about the little things after all right? I've seen and read, and most importantly really enjoyed, a number of 'Bedside Beauty' posts from other bloggers so today I thought I'd share some of my favourite bedtime possessions, from what I sleep in, to my evening skincare rotation, to the beauty picks I enjoy most. I hope you enjoy!
Happiness and positivity doesn't always come naturally. Sometimes you have to work for it and it can be really challenging - I'm certainly guilty on occasion of curling up into a grumpy ball of ill-temper and wishing I was somewhere else (that place predominantly being sunnier than Berkshire currently is). I've been making an effort to embrace slow living in 2017 (you can have a look at my digital detoxing here for example if you fancy it!) because it's the small, simple pleasures that matter most day to day. I've got 15 ways to bring those small but special joys into your everyday life to share with you today, all of which bar the first, are free, so hope you enjoy!
I had a spurt over winter of coveting a matte finish to my skin and started baking my face and all sorts (I don't know what came over me!), but as of now I'm a firm redevotee of the glow. I've got a handful of my favourite glow-givers to share today, and I wanted to include a variety of products, from facial oils to SPF's to makeup, that hopefully aren't too obvious (I've got nothing against you Becca/Bobbi/Ms Tilbury etc!), and each promising (and incidentally deliver on giving) exquisitely radiant skin.
First of all - Happy Valentine's gals and guys! Whether you're loved up (with significant other or significant furry friend), having a night in of pampering or ignoring the day altogether, have the most wonderful time. I'll probably be elbow deep in meringue and cream as you read this, making F my to-die-for cherry & mascarpone pavlova for a V-day sweet treat :). But onto today's post - if you haven't any prior experience with Whamisa, or fermented skincare, let me tell you from the get go that today's review is going to be something you'll be wanting to read.
It's undeniable that I'm a closet photography geek, and I'm often asked about the equipment I use to take my blog photos. I've done a couple of photography posts in the past, which you can find here and here should you so wish, and I'll be turning this into a series to address the many aspects blog photography covers, but today I'm talking gadgetry - from my setup, to my favourite camera accessories, to the little must-have accessories that makes taking my photos so very much easier.
I always like to make a sweet treat for Valentine's Day. Meringue is definitely one of my weaknesses - and I finally feel like I've got the recipe down. I don't usually have problems with picking off little morsels of food whilst I'm shooting posts for my blog but when meringue or pavlova enters the fray, it's an entirely different story - especially when there happened to be a few too many cherries today, steeping patiently in their deliciously sticky juices.. Now look at me, I'm positively gurgling because of it all. Let's just jump into the recipe!
Something I'm hoping to achieve in 2017 is buying fewer beauty products. I had a bit of a eureka moment last year when I moved house and had to find a new home for my collection, and I was pretty stunned at being confronted with not only how much I own, but what proportion of it inevitably gets forgotten about. So for 2017, I'm making a grave effort to spend less on beauty, and get my skincare and makeup collections down to a more manageable, minimalist size, so keep reading for my 8 top tips - and by all means join me in my spending-less programme!
I think one of the biggest surprises to me after a little while of blogging, was realising just how much time is involved. It's no longer just about writing posts and taking pictures, there's a whole other world of social media and planning, and anything to make things easier is more than welcome. In steps my iPhone - I wouldn't be without the thing! Whether to keep me ahead of my to-do lists, or stay in touch with my readers, today I'm sharing a bunch of apps that I use daily, and that I think no blogger should be without.
