I stumbled across the newly launched Couture Contouring Palette by YSL (available here at Feelunique, Boots, House of Fraser or at Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman for those is the US), a simple compact featuring both a contour and highlight shade, completely on a whim and it was nigh on love at first sight. Keep reading for more pics, you've got to see how beautiful this palette is!

As many of them out there as there are, I have never managed to find a powder contour palette that I'm happy with. Every time, I'm met with some kind of flaw, whether the contour shade is too warm in colour, too muddy, the tone is off, the highlighter is glittery, the powders don't blend well, they're too pigmented, or the packaging is too bulky.

Encased in the beautiful gold packaging we've come to expect of YSL, the compact is nice and slimline, and sized just like all of their other face-product cases. The contour shade inside is a lovely, cool but flattering brown - the perfect shade for my NC 20-25 skin, to resemble natural, completely indetectable shadow. It looks incredibly fair in the pan but has a surprising amount of colour. The highlight is equally as beautiful in my eyes, far more subtle than say the Laura Mercier Face Illuminators or MaryLoumanizer, but exactly what I look for - a soft, flattering champagne, richly pigmented but not overdone, and giving an ethereal luminosity to the skin. This isn't one for those who like a highlight 'on fleek', and doesn't show up particularly well in photographs but has that soft-focus, candlelit glow that looks exquisite in person. Both powders are creamy and smooth, especially the contour, and blend exceptionally on the skin - even the lightest hand still gives colour - look out for swatches, more snaps and try ons on my Instagram.

The palette comes in two shades, both of which I think would only really be suitable for fair-ish skins as the options are more of a tonal difference rather than one being darker than the other - 02 Rosy is more pinkish/warm in tone, whereas the slightly ashier 01 Golden suits my skin better.

I'm not saying that my hunt for the perfect contour palette is over, but I'm thoroughly impressed.
