2022 yippee!
I can safely say I never want a year the likes of 2021 ever again. Things went from bad to worse to even worse, culminating in the death of my father and I think that's all I'm going to say about it because I'm trying out trying to remain positive. A happy new year to you all, and straight onto the skincare.
Beauty Pie have been on my periphery perhaps since launch but I'll admit I was put off by the subscription model (as I am with them all..) and soon forgot about them.
Last year however they were kind enough to send me a selection of products and a number of you jumped on asking for my thoughts of the Featherlight SPF 50 in particular.
I'd like to think I'm a good person to ask regarding sunscreen because I'm supremely picky with it. I think I've been spoilt for choice with Korean products (that in my opinion are just undeniably better than their western competitors), although lightweight, non-white-cast formulas, SPF 50 and great sunscreens are much more prevalent these days and readily available to most.
For those who just wanted to know the bottom line, yes I very much like the Beauty Pie SPF and would recommend it. Here's why:
It's called the Feather Light SPF and I can attest to that. It has a fluid consistency that would dribble off your finger should you let it. On my normal-ish skin (can lean a little combination, a little dry in this wintry weather) and over my quick morning skin routine it has a really beautiful dry down. Soft, slightly velvety, not shiny, no heavy feel, no white cast. This imperceptibility lasts the whole day.
As far as ingredients go, it contains a mix of UVA and UVB sunscreens - no ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate I'm glad to report though, which can cause reactions in skin including mine.
The product is formulated without these things:
Parabens, Hydroquinone, Benzoyl Peroxide, Sulphates, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, Benzophenone, MIT, PHMB, D5, Cocoamide DEA, MCT, Mineral oil.
It does however contain alcohol and fragrance, which are the only reasons I wouldn't give this 10/10. Alcohol I can just about tolerate as I'm sure the formula wouldn't apply, settle and dry down so wonderfully without it, but I don't see a need for a fragrance, even if it is light, floral and really quite pleasant.

I like this SPF enough to group it among my other favourites - the Hyggee Relief Sun (which I believe is being discontinued?) and the Nuori Mineral Defence.
The other products I was sent I've so far tested less rigorously:
- I'm already using a retinol product at the moment so don't want to start/open another - the Super Retinol will have to wait for now. If you've tried it I'd love to hear your thoughts.
- The niacinamide serum is lovely! Very fluid so it seeps right into the skin - something I like for a layering product. If you weren't particularly impressed with The Ordinary's niacinamide offering as I wasn't, I would suggest trying this instead.
- The vitamin C capsules... I am as yet undecided. I love the capsule format for freshness - especially important in this type of product - but texture is so often a problem for me and vitamin C and so it also is here. It's thicker and more slippery than I'd like, especially as I currently have the luxury of using Skinceuticals' vitamin C serums which are delightful.
