10 Things That've Made Me Happy Lately #24

Happy New Year!

I'm still here ;) And have a line up of posts planned already for the start of 2020, but it only felt right to start with talking about what's made me happy lately and share a little positivity to hopefully start the year off as we mean to go on.. The end of last year has been a bit of a struggle if honest, I mentioned a few things down below, and then I went and got the norovirus!

Have any of you made resolutions by the way? I used to be very much a NY resolution sort of person but nowadays I've all but given it up. You can make whatever changes to your life you like, at any time of the year. Having said that, F and I were talking about eating more vegetarian/flexitarian meals, so if that counts.

I actually started writing this edition a couple of months ago, so I'm just going to leave that portion in, in italics, and then carry on as of today (start of Jan).

Boy have I had a week.

I'm not exactly sure when I'll be posting this but I'm writing it on Mon 18th Nov and it's fair to say this last week or so has been hellish.

A super quick summary: I've been having some major, ongoing issues with my father, a dental complication from my surgery earlier in the year, job issues and an ear infection.. I've also been having such a tough time with my own inner dialogue, and just feeling stuck and frustrated, and I'm currently sitting here with a headache..

Honestly, I'm feeling so overwhelmed so I really need to focus my energies on the positive and think about what's made me happy lately! So let's start with haste.

one. // Birthday trip to Bath. Because we went to Portugal for F's birthday this year, and we didn't really get back until mid October, I wanted to do something quite low key for mine. That's frankly been my mood in general these days. I feel the older I get, the more mellow I become. Anyway we spent my birthday returning to one of my favourite cities and just had quality time together and it was the loveliest. He let me choose a beautiful bouquet from Pulteney Bridge flowers, we had a super tasty meal (a surefire route to happiness) and the forecast was full of heavy showers but it didn't rain a single drop!

two. // All the loveliest things about autumn. The low light. Apple and cinnamon desserts. Candles.

three. // Having a beauty revival. I feel like I've been bored with beauty products and beauty blogging for a couple of years or so now, but I'm getting back into it, just in a new way with new eyes.

four. // F (Mr self-confessed-anything-but-creative) made me a Christmas card this year, with little hand drawn presents on the front, that turned out to be little windows I could open to reveal cryptic clues for treats I could win?! The sweetest little number, made my heart so happy!

five. // Adorning as much wallspace as possible with fairy lights - I just want to live my best Nigella-Christmas-life all year round ok? ;)

six. // All the opportunities that come with a new year. I'm trying to be more positive this year.. Drawing a line under 2019 and starting anew - including writing a brand new to-do list. Starting a spring clean, 'minimalising', setting out plans for the new year and fresh new bed linen.

seven. // Albeit a rainy one, a really lovely day in Farnham. It's one of my favourite towns but now that we're in Berkshire, we just don't visit as much even though it's hardly far. Had the most delicious pancakes for brunch (honestly, fresh out of the pan, both yielding and crispy, I'll share more in time) and a delicious sharing-plate-sort-of-dinner at Bloom.

eight. // Smoked salmon, avocado and wasabi. On toast, on crackers, on oatcakes, all delicious.

nine. // Ru Paul's Drag Race All Stars Season 4 - no I'm not bored of it yet ;)

ten. // Bloggers: I've been enjoying Audrey A La Mode for my sort of style, Sierra Schultzzie for body positivity and Cooking Tree for everything in the realms of culinary + adorably delightful.

Would love to hear what's been making you happy lately!
