An Affordable Way To Store Your Makeup.

I wanted a very speedy and entirely affordable solution to storing my makeup - something clean and simple but that I wouldn't mind replacing with perhaps more of an investment piece later down the line.

I've found a setup that I'm really pleased with, works perfectly for now for the guest room (or PR/girl-den..), and everything you need comes in under £100, so let me share with you all the details :)

The nub and jist of the operation is simply, Ikea. Of course, what else?

There are lots of blogger favourites found there - the Alex drawers, the Besta Burs dressing table, but I didn't want drawers and dividers. I don't know, I just find them fussy for some reason. And being able to choose how to compartmentalise offers me too much choice, and allows me to extend and expand, primp and fuss until my makeup collection gets really out of control - "let me just move this divider and I can fit in more lipsticks".. I'm really trying to condense my collection so that kind of freedom is a slippery slope.

What I need is pre-detemined storage. And whilst something like the Muji drawers are great, they're quite shallow and I find myself trying to organise my makeup to tessellate perfectly, which is far too arduous and pointless a task for me to be wasting my time on.

Therefore, behold..

My perfect solution is this specific unit (with a couple of extra shelves) and these specific boxes.

Why specifically? Because the boxes fit perfectly. Both height and width. 2 per shelf, 14 per unit. (and even more should you get the taller version). Which makes for an all-in cost comfortably under £100.

The boxes come in standard sizes, and I categorise my makeup into each box.

The 'Eyes' box. The 'Cheeks' box. The 'Lip and Nails box'. The 'Sheet Masks box'. Etc and so forth.

They're big enough to allow for a little glutinous makeup hoarding, small enough to set a sensible limit (definitions of 'sensible' in this regard may vary - mine and F's for example are nothing alike ;)

Big enough to hold larger palettes like this beautifully assembled Pixi neutral (really enjoying this one atm), and rotund objects that wouldn't fit in my Muji drawers, like these gorgeous Guerlain powders, kindly gifted recently from WDF.

Spacious to hold 21 cheek products with room to spare.

They're incidentally also the perfect height to store a double-layer of cushion foundations - handy, if not largely inoperative knowledge (you're welcome).

I like the shiny, gloss-white plastic too - sturdy and slick, and each box comes with it's own lid to keep out any dust.

They're stackable too should you want to omit the shelving unit.

So now that we've logistics out of the way.. for those that are interested in the makeup itself and what I'm loving and using at the moment, here is a quick selection of some current favourites:

I hope this has given you a few ideas, were you after them, and have a lovely week ahead.

xx
