I like to think of myself as a classic dresser.

Of course I'm swayed/inspired by new and incoming pieces each season (although there will never be a moment for oversized trainers or Gucci belts, sorry!), but ultimately, I live in a rotation of bretons, jeans and ballet flats..

No shame though! ;)

Today, I want to share two pieces, that I think every classic dresser needs this autumn. Hope you enjoy :)

So often, especially in the world of fashion blogging, are we encouraged to have new clothes all the time. And almost discouraged from wearing the same outfit twice? Which is just nonsense and completely not part of my everyday world ;) I'd personally much rather invest in a piece (or not even invest as quality need not necessarily be expensive) that I'll wear over and over, rather than leave something to stagnate at the back of my wardrobe after a trend-influenced, singular season of wear.

And I think it's these everlasting pieces in your wardrobe that help define your personal style.

I've had this tweed jacket for.. 5 years? And the only reason I haven't worn it more during that time is due to weight fluctuations and it being too tight - but my point is, 5 years later, now that I'm able to fit into it again, it's still a piece I love, and will continue to love for, probably, forever. I won't even pretend like it didn't cost a small wad of bank notes, but cost-per-wear/cost-per-year, it's a bargain.

Tweed jackets come in any number of style and colour variations, it's all about finding one that speaks to you. Whilst you may favour a boxy, slightly cropped Boucle style, or a tartan printed one a bit like this one that seem to be everywhere at the moment, I think finding a fit that suits you or that you adore is the key. This particular one is a Harris Tweed Herringbone, which is a great place to start (or something like Dubarry) if you're after a classic British countryside feel.

Loafers. The ultimate shoe for me.

Comfortable, classic, appropriate for just about every outfit I can think of and the type of shoe that only betters with age and wear.

This gorgeous pair are just perfect. A little heel, the perfect colour (although they do come in black as well) and the tongue (?) or the bit that goes up your instep is a good length. I know that sounds slightly bizarre but I've a theory that it's that length that determines whether a loafer looks cheap or not ha.

Here's an example where quality need not cost the Earth - especially as these are 50% off at the moment - but even full price, a lovely shoe for under £75.

With loafers, I'd definitely recommend seeking out a style that's comfortable - that's my number one criteria - and deciding what style you're after. A driving loafer, penny loafer, tassled loafer, pointed loafer, velvet loafer.. (I own all, unashamedly ;). Russell & Bromley, The House of Bruar and La Redoute are some excellent places to start.

If you're wondering where we are today, F and I recently took a trip to Bibury, the most gorgeous little village in Gloucestershire. It was heading towards early evening when we took these shots and all the tourists started to disperse, an absolute must visit if you've never been or are in the area.
