I'm the luckiest girl in the world because just as I was finishing up the last content from our Provencal adventure and feeling extra forlorn about it all coming to an end, F whisked me off to Paris for my birthday!

Outfit details

In fact he said it was really for both our birthdays because they're only several days apart and he's never been to Paris before (whereas I'm very familiar with it having gone every year with my family when I was younger), but I knew it was really for me because he knows how many happy childhood memories I hold there.. Find yourself a man who picks up on these things :) (and furnishes you with all the patisserie you can muster when you get there ;)

We took the Eurostar - a much more civilised way to travel in my opinion, and had arrived in Gare Du Nord in what felt like no time (2.5 hours).

Especially having donned my ultimate-comfort-travel outfit of a breton, chinos, trench and ballet flats, it felt just like home.

We had a quick pitstop at Cafe de Flore as I was dying to get my hands on a French hot chocolate (another thing they seem to just do better than us) and went for a wander around (probably) my favourite area, Saint Germain (L'Oreal have a new lipstick out named after S.G. and I'm tempted to pick it up just for the name..) and down by the Seine. It was a beautifully crisp but warm afternoon and I was pretty pleased for having seemingly pitched my outfit perfectly - I'm forever the one that's either too hot or cold!

For dinner, we'd made reservations at Carbon in the 3rd arr.

I really can't remember who exactly it was that first gave me the recommendation but it's been quietly on my list for the next time I returned to Paris and I was really looking forward to going. As I absolutely love kitchen-garden style cooking, Petersham Nursuries, La Goccia, and loved our time at Chardon, Provence, I took a hunch on Carbon being similar and was so pleasantly surprised.

So much so in fact that I'm going to share photographs of everything we ate ;)

Smoked potato croquettes with aioli and lots of fresh herbs.

A spiky aubergine caviar (I'm really into aubergines at the moment) with pickled chillies.

This delicious pumpkin plate, with yoghurt, egg yolk, toasted nuts and honey - so so tasty.

Sticky lamb 'gyozas'.

A towering plate of pork in herby cooking juices, accompanied by roasted carrots, carrot puree, carrot crisps, a herby dressing and hay oil - I could have eaten the carrots all day long.

And for dessert, a deliciously sharp, whey caramel tart with chantilly. The perfect end to a great meal.

Day one of Paris, done. I'm so excited to share the rest of our little impromptu with you :)
