BLOSSOM JEJU SHEET MASKS.

6 September 2016 4 comments

I can barely contain my enthusiasm as I type up this review - these sheet masks are my new favourite thing, sorry to spoil the suspense so early!

The Blossom Jeju sheet masks are a 2-part mask kit that contain 100% pure Jeju Camellia oil, and an essence-soaked sheet mask. The 3 available 'flavours' were sent to me by Glow Recipe to try out, and it was after just one use that I knew I had to write about them.

These masks come in adorable, petal-shaped packaging, with perforations to divide the 2 steps. Step 1 is a generous sachet of 100% pure, Jeju Camellia seed oil, a thick and viscous oil that feels really fine and silky smooth. Full of antioxidants, vitamin E, oleic acid and polyphenols, it can help to reduce collagen depletion in the skin. There's enough oil in the sachet to completely cover your face, neck and decollete - you can even save any remainder for another day if you like, but I like to slather mine on any skin I can spare. The oil isn't occlusive so won't block out the goodness of the essence that's to follow.

Step 2 is a thin sheet mask made from Cupro, a cellulose fibre derived from cotton production. It adheres really well to the face, even on top of my generous slathering of oil, and stays damp for such a long time. The mask is soaked in a delicious essence (with slight variations across the 3 'flavours'), so let's look at the ingredients:

I love most of the ingredients in these masks. Rather than put a lot of emphasis on brightening, or other specific skin concerns, all I want from a sheet mask is hydration and nourishment, for my skin to feel wonderful and supple after, and for a mask experience that I enjoy. With over 20 botanical extracts per mask, and other skin-benefitting ingredients like sodium hyaluronate and sugars, these certainly fulfill my sheet dreams - and the oil really ramps up the hydrating and moisturising properties, it's a genius idea, done really well. Most masks list water, butylene glycol and 1-2 hexanediol high on the list, they're not 100% ideal, but also really hard to avoid.

I've got to give a mention to the scent because although there is a strong fragrance, it's completely divine. I haven't come across anyone who doesn't love it. Whilst everyone says jasmine, to me it smells like an old honeysuckle perfume I had way back when, it's a scent that's really heady and floral and lingers for a long time.

The packet instructs a 20 minute wear time but I think you can push this a lot more, I generally leave all of my sheet masks on for as long as possible and this one stays damp and saturated for eons - I probably leave it on for a good hour. On removal, my skin feels delicious. Really plump, hydrated, moisturised, supple and radiant (I don't actually think there's really any difference in what each mask does, all hydrate really well and I haven't noticed any special firming or brightening that distinguishes the 'flavours'). The oil melds with the essence whilst you're wearing the mask, and it does leave a vaguely oily coating on the skin - which is why I use this mask at night. It's recommended to seal in the effects of the mask with a moisturiser but I've really found the mask alone is enough for my normal-oily summer skin. These masks would be great for dry skins too as they're really lovely and rich.

If you haven't given these a try already, I highly recommend you do so! They're up there with Whamisa for me - utter love.
