The 15 second face mask experience.

I know, I've got to be kidding right? How is anything going to do anything in 15 seconds? You'll see from Part 1 of my Korean Skincare & Makeup Haul that I was lucky enough to try the Blithe Citrus & Honey Splash Mask, courtesy of the girls at Glow Recipe, and I promised you an update with my thoughts - so here's the run down.

Open the box and you'll be presented with a brightly coloured liquid, the consistency of water and you may well think, what on earth am I going to do with this? These masks are essentially, a really concentrated formula of lactic acid + botanical and fruit extracts, that you dilute with water (and we'll talk about the ways in which you can do so below) and almost literally show the mask to your face to  say hello to smooth, soft, luminous skin. And although you might not initially think so, the masks are a great option for travelling - they come with a plastic plug in the top to stop leaks and the plastic bottle is nice and sturdy, so safe to pack in the suitcase - the ideal mask for vacationing. There are 3 varieties in the range - the Citrus & Honey for brightening, a healing Green Tea and the purple Rejuvenating mask full of red berry antioxidants.

Ingredients

Water, Lactic Acid, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Panthenol, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PEG-40 Hydrogenated castor oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium lactate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Juniperus Mexicana Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Honey Extract.

You can see that the formula is almost exclusively botanical extracts and essential oils, and I think the mask would be suitable for all skin types, ranging from sensitive to dry to oily, as you get to control how it's used. Speaking of which..

Method is key here and there are a number of ways to go about things:

Tres trad. - Fill up your sink/basin with water and drop in a capful of the mask. Dabble around with a finger then splash the mask onto your skin for 15-30 seconds.

More modern - Bring the bottle with you into the shower and once you're thoroughly drenched, tip out a capful of the mask into your hands and splash your face under the shower stream, following up with some gentle patting for 15-30 seconds. Don't feel like you're the only one that's destined to have a disaster trying this for your first time, it happens to the best of us! Thankfully I've got some tips to mitigate the awkwardness somewhat, which leads me onto..

Foolproof - Duck your head under the shower to make sure your face is suitably soaked. Pour out half a capful and dribble about a third of that into the palm of your hand - this amount should sit comfortably in your palm without spilling. Onto said soaked face, pat in the dribble of mask for 10 seconds, then rinse and pat again. Repeat twice more. I find this method the most helpful and least wasteful!

Hydrophobic - You can use this out of the shower too for quick touch ups. Soak a cotton pad in water (one of those big, fat, oval ones is perfect) and dispense onto it one drop of the mask. Apply as you would a toner, skipping sensitive areas like the undereyes. A more generous 2-3 drops and you can smooth over rough patches like elbows and ankles too.

Pamper - Tip 2-3 capfuls into your bath to pamper yourself the Kdrama celeb way.

Should you still feel a bit baffled, Glow Recipe have a handy vid here which might help.

Whatever method you choose, I kid you not that the results are positively superb. I've had a lot of people ask me what I think about these masks, having seen a preview on my Insta, as they're not inexpensive when compared to some Kskincare, and having tried mine for a good few weeks, I'm an ardent supporter. It's about as quick as you could hope for, and slots harmoniously into your existing everyday routine. There's no hopelessly scrubbing clay masks off into the sink, nor is there the time period where opening the front door is verboten for fear of reducing your postman into a trembling heap thinking he's just seen Leatherface. This is an 'instant results' product, which is the greatest appeal to skincare devotees like myself. The clean, speedy application leaves my skin feeling baby soft, smooth to the touch and followup skincare and makeup slips on swimmingly (embracing the watery theme of today's post), it's a product I can thoroughly get behind and recommend - it works.

Quick mention for Glow Recipe, a purveyor of Kbeauty, based in the US. They haven't asked me to say anything but I found their shop before they sent me anything and already thought it's really a place you want to be checking out if you're into Korean skincare - it's fast becoming one of my favourite sites, amongst the sea of emerging online Kbeauty shops, because they focus on products that boast an excellent ingredients list and stock the more unusual or noteworthy brands (Whamisa!) that aren't always easy to get hold of.

You can pick up the Blithe masks either from Glow Recipe themselves, or they're now available here at Sephora.
