Did you ever think it possible to condense your morning skincare routine into just one product? I'm generally not a believer in skincare-multitaskers (jack of all trades and that), but if you share my skepticism, let me tell you about this K-beauty hit...

I've had a lot of requests to share my thoughts on this product since featuring it in this KBeauty Haul and on my Insta, and today, I'm finally here with my comprehensive breakdown. The J One Jelly Pack, flagship product of Korean actress Ha Ji Won's skincare line, and kindly sent to me by Glow Recipe, is a multi-tasking, treatment, mask and primer, that claims to shrink your morning routine into one, achingly minimal, monochrome bottle. With fermented black tea, adenosine and peptides for skin resilience, anti aging and overall improvement, the Jelly Pack also contains botanical flower waters and hyaluronic acid to soothe and hydrate and niacinamide to brighten - there's also a lifting and firming effect, which Ha Ji Won claims is like a 'corset for your face'.

Packaging

The product comes in a sturdy, thick, plastic bottle (suitable for travelling) with pump dispenser to keep the contents fresh and active. I can't help but love the minimalist aesthetic, perfect to sit within any design-focused beauty cabinet.

First Impressions

Dispense a little product and you'll notice it's gloopy, thick but fluid texture, rather like a syrupy nectarious honey. There's some resistance to the gel as you push it across your skin, almost feeling like a non Newtonian fluid (and if you've not seen these, go check them out - they're uber cool). You'll notice a 'stringiness' or tackiness to the texture too, that I haven't seen in another product.

How To Use

Exactly like the Blithe Splash Mask I scrutinized in this post, method is key with the J One Jelly Pack:

Apply around 2 or 3 pumps to freshly cleansed skin and smoothe over your face in long, sweeping motions. Tap or pat the product into the skin to help everything meld together and sink in. Let it settle for a couple of minutes before moving onto sunscreen or makeup.

Ha Ji Won talked about application in Korean programme Get It Beauty, here's a handy vid for application visuals! (note, she's in her mid to late 30's, her skin is incredible.)

You can also use this as a sleeping pack, applying a generous layer as the last step to your evening skincare routine.

Performance

The moment I'd finished applying this to my skin, I noticed how plump and enlivened it felt, and how smooth everything looked, as if all my pores had been filled and smoothed over. The 3 pumps I went in with sank right into my skin and the initial tackiness definitely goes away to almost nothing, although there's still a tiny amount of residual 'stick'. Makeup application is a dream, as nothing skips on my dry patches (I'm battling hayfevery, fluey symptoms atm and it's a nightmare). The slight cling really grabs onto product - perfect for my cushions but I think you'd struggle with a powder foundation. After makeup, there's nothing that feels heavy, everything feels smooth and soft and dewy but no longer tacky - and my skin feels so supple and hydrated. And although it claims to cover the entirety of your morning skincare, there's no reason to not use it in conjunction with other products - I preceed mine with a toner and light serum.

This is hands down the best primer I've ever tried in terms of makeup longevity - it really grabs onto your base and keeps things in place for the entire day, and night, and morning after - there's just nothing that compares to it in those stakes. Whatever you do, don't try to go at this with blotting papers though, I made that mistake to be left with patches where the pack had gripped onto the blotting papers and removed itself from my face in hard to rectify patches.

During my first couple of uses, I felt tingling or a slight irritation from around half an hour after I'd applied this, along with the rest of my makeup. I don't know whether that was due to something in the formula, or a reaction with the makeup I was wearing, or whether it was because it was really hot and something reacted to saline in my sweat? I don't know. But I was a bit wary and didn't use it again for around a week, and when I came back to it, it seemed completely fine, with no tingling at all. Although it's claimed to be perfectly suitable for sensitive skins, you may just want to patch test first.

Now that we've ironed out my little sensitivity blip, I'd thoroughly recommend this product. It has a fantastic effect on my skin's visual hydration, elasticity and texture and keeps my makeup in place all day - I was definitely skeptical at first but I'm actually mightily impressed!
